I'm someone who's undergone a complete life/self overhaul. I'm now a professional in my dream job, balancing an amazing relationship, a healthy body, a healthy self image, my passions, my family and surrounding myself with good people. It's hard, not gonna lie. But I'm here to help, to inspire and say "you're not alone."

Me, today. 7.11.12. Appreciate Yourself

Today was a normal day like any other. Work and a warmly lit world by the people around me and the picturesque city. I set out to challenge myself again and take my modeling to another level. After work I straightened my hair, powdered my nose and put on some kicks and torn jeans at a sunglasses photo shoot for the Australian Oakleys – Dirty Dog. The massive amount of flashes, lenses, chords and tens of sunglasses were set up and packed up in various places throughout the city ranging from rusted back alleys, dry fountains, loading docks and the rooftop of parking structures at sunset.

This was my biggest shoot yet and what would be the most scrutinizing. Trying to do freezes on unsteady ground, while flipping my hair out of the way, angling my body and my face so that the shades were shown was definitely a challenge. Now, I’m not saying it’s quadratic equations hard, but it’s definitely mentally challenging. Over and over again I thought,” Relax the jaw, tighten the abs, relax the shoulders, long neck, make sure the glasses show, aaaand also trying to do one handed freezes.”

So I focused, hard. Taking his suggestions, immediately making changes, improvising and adapting…it was exhausting. At the end of it all I gained a few sunglasses, perhaps a few more, a new friend, a probable sponsorship, as well as the chance at creating stock photos for Getty images.

Feeling very accomplished, I drove home in the dark with windows rolled down, the cool night air blowing through my hair and my head bobbing to my favorite songs. I thought, man I have a pretty cool life. It’s not luck, I create these opportunities for growth, change and success, and I must appreciate that about myself. So, I actually said out loud to myself, “Thank you for this opportunity.”

In today’s world of go go go, succeed and then on to the next thing, we forget to take time to appreciate the things we’ve done well, and more importantly hang on to them. We forget to take these wins to heart and use them as building blocks to stand taller and taller. So, please take the time to appreciate yourself for what you to do better your own life, your health and happiness.
