I'm someone who's undergone a complete life/self overhaul. I'm now a professional in my dream job, balancing an amazing relationship, a healthy body, a healthy self image, my passions, my family and surrounding myself with good people. Me, Today. 12.11.13 “Loving Yourself” is Poppycock

It occurred to me recently that the “True happiness is to Love Yourself” mantra is a bunch of poppycock.

What these people really mean is ACCEPT yourself. Accept WHO you are – and also recognize the difference between WHO you are and HOW you are. Who you are goes something like this: I am a well meaning person that just wants to be comfortable. How you are sounds kinda exactly like: I am disorganized and procrastinate, I’m only good at Connect Four, making omelets and sometimes getting to the gym. Who you are does not change with advances in career, proficiency at sports or how many likes you have on facebook.

Accept who you are at whatever state in life you’re in, don’t fight it and don’t hate yourself. What you can “hate” is HOW you are, and what you CAN do is change that. You can change how you think, how you act and how present you are in your life. Accept who you are now, decide how you want to be and start making the changes that will get you there.
